Our topic for Summer Term 1 is

'Traditional Tales'

 

This half term we will be learning all about different Traditional Tales.

 

Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.

 

Writing

In English we are looking at different Traditional Tales including The Little Red Hen, The Gingerbread Man and The Three Little Pigs.

We will be composing sentences using their phonics knowledge. They will be using Talk 4 Writing actions to re-tell the different Traditional Tales.

Maths

In maths we will follow the White Rose Hub planning where we will be focusing on the themes ‘To 20 and Beyond’ and ‘First, Then and Now’. The children will be learning about addition and subtraction, building numbers beyond 10 and spatial reasoning.

Communication and Language

The children will re-telling stories and follow stories using props and pictures. We are also following the Nottinghamshire Nursery Rhyme Progression and will be learning a new Nursery Rhyme each week.

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

 We follow the SCARF scheme and this term we are completing the 'Being my Best’ unit. The children will looking at Healthy Eating, Healthy Minds and how to bounce back when things go wrong. They will be learning about their bodies and how to keep them healthy.

Physical Development

We follow the Power of PE scheme and will learn how to improve our skills. They will be negotiating space and obstacles safely and demonstrating strength, balance and co-ordination when playing. We will also be participating in KIXX sessions.  

Understanding the World

This term we are learning about History and events within their lifetime such as the Coronation of King Charles III. We will be having a Coronation party and completing activities linked to the event.

Expressive Arts and Design

This half term will be learning about music and movement with the KAPOW music scheme and creating our own musical story. The children will take part in World Art Day and an African Drumming workshop. We will create a range of art and crafts linked to Traditional Tales.
