Welcome to Brilliant Bears!

We are a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 Class!

Our PE days are Wednesdays and Fridays

Please send your child in their PE kits on their PE days for the Spring term.

Our topics are Time Travelling and Kings and Queens.

English

In English, we will be studying a range of different stories, poems and non-fiction books. We will be helping Professor Klunk on his quest and make him magic by writing sentences about the different texts we look at.

Maths

We will be focusing on place value up to 50 and addition and subtraction within 20. We will be comparing and measuring different lengths and heights and looking at standard and non-standard units of measure. We will also be exploring with different masses and volumes.

Science

We will be looking at the topic of materials. We will be learning the difference between an object and the material it is made from, we will identify and name a variety of everyday materials including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water and rock. We will be learning about the physical properties of different materials and be able to compare and group different materials together.

Art and Design

We will be studying the artist Andy Goldsworthy. We will be exploring different materials and learning to combine them using glue. We will mix materials to make different textures and arrange materials in a particular way.

Computing

In Spring 1, we will be looking at and exploring beebots. We will create simple algorithms and know how to debug algorithms when something goes wrong.

In Spring 2, we will be creating a digital piece of art work and learn how to open, close and save a piece of work. We will also be developing our typing skills.

Design and Technology

In DT we will be looking at different structures and bridges. We will be creating our own bridges and test their strength to see if they can support some toy cars.

Geography

We will be looking at the weather and different seasons. We will know some features of hot and cold places and be able to locate the equator, north pole and south pole on a map and globe.

History

We will be studying different kinds and queens. We are going to be learning about Queen Elizabeth and King Charles. We will compare life under the two different monarchs.

PE

In Spring 1 we will be studying the topic dance. We will know how to move in relation to the music and respond with appropriate movements and actions.

 In Spring 2 we will be studying the topic locomotion. We will learn to run with the correct technique to ensure maximum speed and develop a greater awareness of where to run and why running fast is important in games. 

Music

In music we will be learning about pitch, tempo, timbre and rhythm. We will create patterns using two pitches and identify simple tempo changes in music. We will play a rhythmic pattern and chant along with a story.

Health and Relationships

We will be learning how to keep ourselves safe as well as our rights and responsibilities. We will know what our bodies need to stay well through exercise, sleep, healthy foods and hygiene. We will know how to wash our hands correctly. We will be looking at ways to look after our homes and school and what to do if someone has hurt themselves.

RE

We are going to be learning about ourselves and the importance of caring for others. We will know examples of how to care for others and explore different characteristics such as kindness, generosity and sharing. We will learn about some Christian teachings and stories. We will look at some of the stories Jesus told and why these stories are important to Christians.
