The Art Curriculum at Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School
At Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School, we are Artists! Our aim is for our children to be brave and imaginative artists, who explore and express their creativity with confidence and joy. They will gain an understanding of artistic techniques and the significance of art, both historically and in contemporary society. Our art curriculum is designed to provoke curiosity and provide opportunities for self-expression and cultural appreciation. We develop cultural capital by fostering meaningful interactions and nurturing each child’s unique artistic voice, helping them to flourish and achieve their full potential.
Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School is a unique and wonderful school. We have identified the need to shape and drive the curriculum based on our school vision and ethos. We have developed 6 key curriculum drivers which underpin the learning and experiences we undertake in all areas of school life. These run as a thread throughout each curriculum subject to ensure our curriculum is enriched and implemented to provide appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities for our children to SHINE.
Our art curriculum is well-sequenced and progressive, covering various strands such as drawing, painting and sculpture. In order to support our children in their ability to know more and remember more, there are opportunities to review the previous learning that has taken place so that we thrive.
An Artist leaving Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School will have a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of artistic principles. They will have acquired the specific skills and knowledge to express themselves creatively and the confidence to explore and experiment with different art forms. We believe that the impact of our coherent art curriculum is that children develop a lifelong love of art, teachers have high expectations, and quality evidence is presented through displays, floor books, sketchbooks, and pupil voice.
