Spring Term

Our topic for Spring term 1 is

'Out of this World'

This half term we will be learning all about Space, Tim Peake and the different people who help us. We will be celebrating Chinese New Year and will be asking lots of questions to find out more which will deepen our knowledge.

Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.

Writing

In English we are looking at the stories Loon on the Moon, The Way Back Home and Whatever Next.

We will learning to re-tell stories using recently introduced vocabulary, recognise taught digraphs and blend sounds together and begin to write simple words and phrases.

Maths

In maths we will follow the White Rose Hub planning where we will be focusing on the themes 'Alive in 5' and 'Growing 6,7,8'. Within these themes we will be comparing and composing numbers up to 8, combining 2 numbers, comparing mass and capacity and learning about length, time and height.

Communication and Language

The children will learn to ask questions to find out more. We will also be encouraging the children to use conjunctions such as 'and' and 'because'.

We are also following the Nottinghamshire Nursery Rhyme Progression and will be learning a new Nursery Rhyme each week.

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

 We follow the SCARF scheme and this term we are completing the 'Keeping Safe' unit. The children will looking at different ways to keep safe including online safety. We will be taking part in Internet Safety Day too.

Physical Development

We follow the Power of PE scheme. The children will be balancing and climbing on a variety of equipment. We will also be participating in KIXX sessions.  

Understanding the World

This term we are learning about the lives of people around them and they will know about people and the environment around the world. We will be learning about our own and different environments. In RE the children will know what a Church is and discover more about Jesus.

Expressive Arts and Design

This half term will be exploring sounds with our new KAPOW music scheme.  The children will explore different techniques within Art. We are creating our own box model rockets, blow painting aliens, sponge painting planets, pom pom blossom trees for Chinese New Year and making dream catchers.

Our topic for Spring Term 2 is

'Ready Steady Grow'

This half term we will be learning all about growing, plants, healthy eating, oral health, the weather and seasons. We will also have a special "a million dreams" week and have different inspirational visitors.

Over the term we will be covering all of the seven Foundation Stage Areas of learning.

Writing

In English we are looking at the stories Oliver's Fruit Salad, The Tiny Seed and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We will be composing sentences using their phonics knowledge. They will write lists of ingredients and instructions about how to make a fruit salad. The children will also be dressing up as their favourite book character and exploring different texts throughout the day. 

Maths

In maths we will follow the White Rose Hub planning where we will be focusing on the themes 'building 9&10' and completing lots of consolidation. Within these themes we will be exploring numbers up to 10 including composing, comparing, making and counting back numbers from 10. The children will be learning about 3D shapes and gaining a deeper understanding of patterns.

Communication and Language

The children will re-telling stories and follow stories using props and pictures. They will engage with non-fiction books and use new vocabulary in different contexts.

We are also following the Nottinghamshire Nursery Rhyme Progression and will be learning a new Nursery Rhyme each week.

Personal, Social, Emotional Development

 We follow the SCARF scheme and this term we are completing the 'Rights and Responsibilities' unit. The children will looking at different ways to look after people, their friends, home, money, classroom and world. 

Physical Development

We follow the Power of PE scheme and completing the 'Growing' topic. They will be showing increased control and be more confident with their movements when using objects and equipment. We will also be participating in KIXX sessions.  

Understanding the World

This term we are learning about growing, plants, weather, seasons, oral health and healthy eating. We will be tasting different healthy fruits, planting our own sunflowers and helping them to grow, learning the lifecycle of a butterfly and exploring teeth and how to look after our teeth. In RE the children will learn about Easter and Jesus Stories including Moses and the Baby and the Good Samaritan.

Expressive Arts and Design

This half term will be learning about music and movement with the KAPOW music scheme. The children will learn about Van Gough and his sunflower painting within Art. We are creating different Easter crafts too.
