Welcome to Rhino class!
What a great start to Year 2 we’ve had! The children have certainly charged into Year 2 filled with excitement and curiosity!
Mrs Ripley’s Rhinos
As Rhinos, we are a strong team who never give up. Our motto is Be the best you can be! And, we take pride in all that we do!
In class we follow our school ‘rainbow rules’ and strive to get our rockets up through the planets and onto the bronze, silver and gold stars.
We need to bring our PE kit to school on a Monday and we will bring it home on a Friday for washing.
This means we can enjoy PE and games outdoors when the weather is dry as currently, PE will take place outdoors. We are also aiming to run our Daily Mile too and so will need a change of shoes in our PE bag.
This term, our topic is called ‘Fire Fire!’ We will become historians learning about ‘The Great Fire of London’ and the effect this had on the geography of the city past and present. We have even got our own class bakery!
In English, we will be exploring stories, information and poems together. We will share reading and be responding to books.
In Phonics, we will consolidate the phonics we were being taught in Year 1 and use our skills to spell and write independently too. During these sessions, we will be using Monster Phonics.
Reading books will be changed each Friday and our reading band will be assessed regularly. Everyone will bring home book banded (levelled) book as well as a choosing book). Please bear with us while these initial assessments take place! Reading time will class take place each day including staff led guided reading and comprehension activities. We will build up a reading profile of the children over the year.
Our Maths this term will focus on number, place value and addition and subtraction skills. We will play games, work practically and transfer these skills into drawing pictoral and written methods while building on our knowledge of the key vocabulary.
The curriculum will be built around our skills and needs. Our goal is to make learning fun and engaging whilst aiming high! We will have time to explore and play in our classroom provision areas as well as having daily lessons building on our learning journey.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We will endevour to keep you up to date and hope to share pictures of the special moments using the ‘Evidence me!’ programme so please make sure we have your email address.
Thank you for your support!
