Welcome to Lion class!
The children have had an incredible start
to Y2- we are so proud of our ‘Pride’.
As Lions we look after each other (taking pride in our Pride of lions), work hard and listen really carefully.
In class we follow our school ‘rainbow rules’ and strive to get our rockets up through the planets and onto the bronze, silver and gold stars.
We need to bring our PE kit to school on a Monday and we will bring it home on a Friday for washing. This means we can enjoy PE and games outdoors when the weather is dry. We will also aim to do a daily run. Lions like to stay fit!
This term, our topic is called ‘Fire Fire!’ We will become historians learning about ‘The Great Fire of London’ and the effect this had on the geography of the city past and present. We have even got our own class bakery!
In English we will be exploring stories, information and poems together. We will share reading and responding to books. We will consolidate the phonics we were being taught in Year 1 and use our skills to spell and write independently too.
Our maths this term will focus on number, place value and addition and subtraction skills. We will play games, work practically and transfer these skills into drawing pictoral and written methods.
The curriculum will be built around the our skills and needs. Our goal is to make learning fun and engaging whilst aiming high! We will have time to explore and play in our classroom provision areas as well as having daily lessons building on our learning journey.
Reading and choosing (sharing) books will be changed each Friday and our reading band will be assessed regularly. Please bear with us while these initial assessments take place! Reading time will class take place each day including staff led guided reading and comprehension activities. We will build up a reading profile of the children over the year.
We are really looking forward to the year ahead! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We will endevour to keep you up to date and hope to share pictures of the special moments using the ‘Evidence me!’ programme.
Thank you for your support!
