Giraffes
Giraffes Class
Class teacher: Mrs L. Jones Class TA: Mrs C. Osborne
Our PE day is Friday. Please send your child in their PE kit on this day.
Our topic this term is:
Habitat Hunters
We are really excited to be learning about different animals, plants, habitats and microhabitats! We will be investigating where different animals live and how they have adapted to their surroundings. We will be studying animals diets and looking at food chains. In history we will be studying the first aeroplane flight and learning lots of facts about the Wright Brothers.
English
In English we are looking at the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be retelling the story through the use of story maps which we are creating ourselves.
We will be studying and identifying four different sentence types; questions, exclamations, statements and commands. Here's a website to help explain the difference:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkxxsbk/articles/zvp6dp3
We will be comparing an alternative version of the story through studying the tale of Jack and the baked beanstalk. We will be making predictions about the new book using clues from the text to support our answers based on what we have already read. We will be finding similarities and differences between the original story and the altered version.
We are going to be planning and writing our own versions of Jack and the beanstalk with changed elements to make it different from the original. We will be sharing our finished stories with the pupils in another class.
Maths
In maths we will be focusing on statistics, shape and measurements.
In statistics we will be learning about different types of charts and graphs including tally charts, bar graph and pictograms. We will be using the information presented to answer a range of questions including which is the most popular? How many votes? What is the difference between the most popular and least popular? Which groups received fewer than ___ votes?
We are going to be learning about a range of 2D and 3D shapes. We will be identifying the number of sides of vertices found on 2D shapes and counting the number of faces, edges and vertices a 3D shape has. We will be investigating lines of symmetry and making patterns with a variety of shapes. We will be seeing if we can identify and continue different patterns as well as spotting mistakes made in a pattern.
We will be exploring measures including height, length, mass, capacity, temperature and time. We will be using rulers to measure objects in centimetres and metres. We will be solving a range of problems about different lengths and heights.
We will be consolidating our knowledge of o'clock and half past and be learning to tell the time in 5 minute intervals. We will be comparing and finding different durations of time. We will also know how many minutes are in an hour and how many hours are in a day.
We are going to be learning to read lots of different scales relating to weight, capacity and temperature. We will be identifying what the different scales are counting in and be able to read how much the scale is showing.
Secret Agent Training
The children are currently preparing and practising to become secret agents.
They will be undertaking 4 secret agent missions, two reading missions and two maths missions.
The children have been doing lots of work in class to prepare themselves for these missions.
They have been focusing on answering retrieval and inference questions in reading and a solving range of maths problems.
We can't wait to graduate spy school!
